Chrona is a character in the anime/manga Soul Eater.

I don't know too much about this character, but I've seen scenes of them from various (key) parts of the anime.

My friend started drawing pictures of SE, and I got interested in it that way. I love learning about different characters and stuff, so I did some "research" on them ... by taking personality quizzes. I like seeing who I relate to. ^^; Every quiz I took yielded the same result; Chrona. And the description was pretty accurate.

So that got me more interested in the character and the anime. Yep, I watched it for Chrona.

There's the debate of Chrona's gender. I first thought Chrona was a girl, but then someone said that Chrona was a boy, and that made sense to me. A lot of sense. Even though Medusa calls Chrona "daughter", it made more sense to me that Chrona be a boy. I was thinking too much into it, and thought Chrona and Medusa's offspring-parent relationship was similar to that of Ed Gein and his mother Augusta. And even to other serial killers and their parents.

You see, a few serial killers' parents treated them like girls. One parent sent their serial-killer-to-be son to school in a dress. Talking to my friend, Rinny, revealed that Medusa would be the type of person to do that to their son in order to "break" them. What is the best way to bend a meek man to your will? Why, attack his masculinity, of course. So I thought that Medusa dressed Chrona in a dress as a means of getting more control over him.

My mistake was to think of Soul Eater as anything more than fanservice and the abuse of good ideas, like I did there.

I saw episode 7 and Chrona was awesome. The only thing that they could have done to make me love them more was if they cursed Maka and Soul out. "The doors open inward, BITCH!!!!!!!!!!!!"

That would be amazing. Even better if they killed Maka. I'm feeling warm and fuzzy inside just thinking about it!

But good things don't last, and soon Chrona will succumb to the character flattening that is Soul Eater.

Their "death" scene is just ... it's something you've seen in every other anime, I'm sure. Here's the set up:
Bad Guy: "Hahah! I am holding my weapon over the hero, and I am about to kill them! But first, a word from our sponsors!" *blabs about being cool, or trying to be, or something*
Hero: "Oh no, I'm gonna die!"
Hero's Friend: *as Bad Guy is talking, gets ready to heroically defend their friend and gets in the way*
Bad Guy: "Darn! I killed the wrong person! Well, it's not like I can just take my weapon out and try again, since there's no one left to protect the hero, so I'm juts going to leave for poor plot related purposes" *leaves*
Hero's Friend: "I really care about you, Hero!" *dies*
Hero:: "NOOOOO!!!!"

Yep, that's pretty much it. Sorry, but all emotion that could have been generated in such a potentially touching scene are ruined because of the sheer stupidity of the characters. Why didn't the villain act sooner? You know? It's so cliche and so overdone that it destroys it.

But that's not the worst of the character trashing of Chrona. At the last episode, the main cast are forced (for some stupid reason) to fight the Big Bad, and some other people (including Chrona) are left to watch. Chrona is only there (oh yeah, Chrona got better) so (s)he can talk about how amazing Maka is when the scene shifts from Maka to the people talking about Maka. Basically Chrona stopped being their own character, and started being Maka's bitch. Serving only to make Maka more Mary Suetastic.

But I still like Chrona, and they are my favorite from that series, and are one of my all time faves, but what they did to the character is just ... unforgivable. I wish I could pluck Chrona from that anime and put them in an anime where they'd be cared for and developed properly.

In short, the character had a LOT of great potential. They were just in the wrong anime.

So, I asked you all in my poll what you wanted reviews of, and people said "characters", and ~Masanohashi suggested that I blab about a Soul Eater character.

Then I decided to be nice, and talk about a character I could say nice things about, so I picked my favorite; Chrona.

if you want better character development, try reading the manga, the anime plot was chizzjacked after ep 36 or so, and it went down hill scince then. the manga scanlation, may call crona a girl, but it's still WAY better character development, the best parts are the momy son/daughter parts, scince that RARELY happens. crona's my favorite character too, it'ss the androgynous potato i just absolutely love :meow:

My friend (a Cronaologist, :la:) says that too! :D She also writes fanfictions with Crona and stuff! :D (I suggest you check them out! :la: :iconroloslover: ) I read some of the manga, and I liked the pacing and art MUCH better. But then I heard that they change the style so it's the one used in the anime. :cries:
...Potato? :o

scince crona has no actual defined gender, it remains in my eyes as an angrodgynous potato, as in you can't tell the gender. this is oddly an aspect i like in anime characters XD i have no idea why.

alrighty then, i'll check her out :meow: she looks interesting.

Yep! :D Sorry about that! ^^; I never heard the word "potato" being used to describe a character before! ^^;
Same here. There's something so adorable about them! :squee:

She is! :D Oh, and a bit of a "pro-tip", she usually refers to Crona as a male, but she knows that he has no definite gender. :D

nah, it's fine it catches people off guard alot XD.

yeah, most people do know, but it's funny seeing them with heir deadset beliefs that Crona's definate male of definate female argue with eachother, when they technicly have no ground to stand on XD.

(sorry for the typo's my keypad's totally jacked.)

Yeah, my friend really hates getting into debates about it, because of that fact. I have seen some heated debates about it, and it's just.... :no: People take it so seriously! Like their lives depended on it, or something! :XD:

It's okay! :D

Why you first told me the thing about Medusa dressing Chrona as a girl it made perfect sense. I'm starting to think that the manga is better than the anime, cause Chrona doesn't even die trying to save Maka, they're not even put inot that situation. But it's kinda lame trying to read the manga when there's an anime. Makes me mad. :shakefist:

Mangas usually are better than the anime. But I like watching anime more because they play with more senses. They have background music that fits the scene fine, you know? Sometimes if I'm reading a book/manga and I'm listening to music...if the wrong song is playing (a happyish song for a death scene) ruins the mood, you know? And it's sometimes hard to tell when a certain "mooded" scene will come up, so you can't always adjust the music to fit the mood all the time, you know? ^^;

I'm too optimistic; I was thinking that they did something cool and psychological there. :( Then again, I didn't even know it was a dress at first! :XD:

Yeah! I always thought that making an anime of something was a way/chance to "edit" it. They did that in DGM, in the manga a priest and nun fall in love (they're supposed to be "pure") and it was changed in the anime. It's also a bit of a chance to edit it (the manga) down and trim off unnecessary details and stuff that doesn't contribute to the story. You know? But I guess not. :(
